Measuring the heat produced during Polishing

The dull and bright polishing of stainless steel sheets are just two of the processes that we offer and we are occasionally asked what temperature the stainless sheet sheet will reach during polishing.

Working with Dr. Jonathon Elvins, a Senior Technology Transfer Fellow from Swansea University alongside Aston University, we commissioned a project to measure and record the temperature that the sheets achieved.

On one of our Dull Polishing sheet lines the temperature profile was assessed at various points of the process by use of thermocouple probes and thermo-images. The sheet was measured before polishing, whilst being polished and after polishing. Tests were ran over several days in order to validate the repeatability of previous observations.

One of our Bright Polishing lines was also measured with a similar evaluation. Temperature profiles were assessed at various points of process by thermocouple probes and thermo-images and the flow rate of the extraction system was evaluated at the extraction point.
